The Project -
We are inviting couples/groups to ‘adopt’ an area of the parish and make a monthly record throughout the year of the habitat, species and archaeology they find. All levels of ability and all ages are encouraged to participate, particularly the younger residents. Not only will our volunteers be extending their knowledge of Lickey and Blackwell, but also contributing to an important and valuable resource which can be shared with our MoP partners.
The PC environment group have been very busy over the last five months consulting and forging partnerships with the likes of WCC Biodiversity Dept. Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, Lickey Hills Country Park, local landowners, schools and other interested groups. This follows an aerial mapping of the whole parish.
Please register an early interest in a favoured plot, as we anticipate this will attract many volunteers on the day.
Launch Day -
The project will be officially opened by Julie Kirkbride MP, at The Lickey Parish Hall, Old Birmingham Road, 10am - 1pm Saturday 4th October 2008. This is an exciting opportunity for all our residents to become more involved in the environment of the parish.
Apart from a commitment of once a month - you need only bring your enthusiasm! A special case will be supplied and will include: identification crib sheets, books, maps and more. A member of the environment team will be allocated to support your group - assistance will only be a phone call away.
Do come along to the presentation by our experts, learn how Hanbury handled their project and get involved!
We intend to hold regular meetings to ensure we are all heading in the right direction and enable us all to exchange information with like minded neighbours.
The Competition -
See special posting for details.
See you at the launch!
How very disappointing. I was very much looking forward to taking part in the Mapping project, but from reading your article it appears to be only to couples and groups. As a single person, I find this offensive and unecessary.

Dear Ms Edwards
Thank you for visiting the blog, and posting your comment. It was certainly not the intention of the organisers of the event to exclude anyone who wishes to participate on their own; the Parish Council felt that the Mapping our Parish may seem a little onerous to individuals to undertake rather than groups of two or more. However the organisers would most warmly welcome those who are more than happy to undertake the project as sole recorders of their allocated "patch", with support from the Parish Council.
